Personal Data – Your Responsibilities under GDPR

Protecting the EU personal data that you manage and or control is one of the key regulations that should be observed regardless of where it is processed, where you trade, or what size of company you are.

Most organisations within the UK process data from at least the following:

Employees,
Customers
Suppliers
Therefore, under GDPR, you should be able to demonstrate, at least:

• What data you hold (easily demonstrated using a Data Mapping process)
• How you protect the data (by ensuring good protection against threats, malware, viruses, ransomware)
• How you backup the data
• How you secure all the devices (local and remote) that access data
• Have a fully tested Backup and Recovery plan
• Have procedures in the event of data breaches or data loss
• Have policies and procedures that detail the above

Obviously the above is only a part of becoming GDPR compliant, and not only is compliance an ongoing process for the next few years, there are going to be changes to tighten up protection but also new legislation.

So keeping on top of GDPR will not be easy. Last year, Glemnet introduced a self-service GDPR Compliance portal, that enabled customers to save considerable time and effort, and to meet their compliance goals.

The GDPR Compliance portal helps you step through the process in a logical and easy to follow method, and also providing ready made Policy templates for your Policies and Procedures. To help you along the way, you can also connect to a Live Chat Box which is connected to Data Protection Officers for advice whilst completing the GDPR Portal process.

Any changes to the GDPR will be automatically applied to the portal giving you constant protection, and Notification Policies and Procedures are also included within the Portal.

Whilst using the GDPR Compliance Portal, you may uncover requirements to enhance your Data Protection, EndPoint Device security or Backup and Recovery processes and Glemnet would be more than happy to advise you on these.

So, getting GDPR compliant may be easier than you think!

Remember – if you don’t look after your data – someone else might….
